January Conger Bashing!

So i ventured out a few times last week my plan was to fish Tuesday, Wednesday,Thursday & Friday only few hours every evening in search of a decent Conger! The first night we tried a new spot. Alex Plaster had x2 Congers 16lb 3oz & 17lb 12oz So Biggest conger of the year so far for him! :) Was pretty hard landing them in the swell might i add!

After being gaffer boy i went reel in to pack up and look what was on my hook! lol!

my 4th Conger of year year yes i am counting it :)

So the next night Myself & Rob Dingle went to another new mark, we both knew that Congers can be caught here aswell as Red Mullet. So i went for the Eels he went for Reds. He had one decent bite which could have been a Red but missed it. My rod on the other hand wouldn't shut up, kept on screaming off id strike the fish it was on then it would come near the surface and off it came. It did this a couple of times and i knew it was a Eel! I must not have been setting the hook properly. But a sorted my self out and got the bugger in the end.

14lb 3oz i think it went! So it beat my previous biggest of the year of 13lb! but still not the one i was looking for! Had one of my previous traces in its mouth the greedy bugger! :)

So that was Wednesday night...still got two more nights to get a bigger one! Thursday is upon us met up with Alex again and Rob went down yet another new mark!

Was very quiet not many bites happening was thinking about moving round corner but we stuck to it! Alex said i think if we get one it will be a decent one! Rob left us to it and not long after my rod pulled down, i didn't want to mess this up it was being proper gay... little pull downs every minute! I hanged on 5mins plus before i striked into it and Boom! Fish on felt like a good one! now only problem was gaffing it in the swell, but Alex managed it within a couple mins! soon as i saw it i knew it was over 25 maybe 30 we was saying :)

On the scales at 28lbs Bang on! Was perfectly gaffed in chin so not much harm to fish and released pretty quickly :)

So Mission Accomplished! I did try Friday for 1 hour but wet and windy called it a night pretty quickly and Scott Ballards bag went for a swim in the sea with a Expensive camera, Tili Lamp, all of his gear, a jacket, nearly a broken reel, and a ripped bib and brace! Expensive night for him :) Dropped down 30ft Drop before getting washed away in swell! i really did feel for him!

Mullet Bites the Bread!

Over last weekend i went out with Lee Jarvis to a new mark for both of us! He managed his first shore caught Conger of around 10lb catch and released but with no picture i am afraid :(

I have been out twice over the week once for Congers and once for Mullet.

The Conger Session was short and sweet tried out a new spot. Was only using one rod each between three of us. I was the lucky one who managed two small whips.

I know there not big but still managed the target species. :)

So then Wednesday night Myself and Ritchie & Mystery Guest Decided to do a Bit of a cheeky Mullet fishing

Because i am rubbish at mullet fishing Ritchie pulled one out within minutes!

And then after his was released and he was on the way back to me, i was into a fish put up a great fight in 2ft of water! Here is glory shot: Slightly bigger than Ritchie's ;)

So still getting fish in January is keeping the motivation up to get out there! Dont think i will get much done over weekend, but if i do i shall let you know how i get on. Trip to Mexico coming up in March so taking a Travel rod with me, should be fun! Only down side is i am trying to burn of my Christmas Turkey :)

First Conger of 2012!

So i ventured out on Saturday on my own for 1 hour down a spot in search of a Wrasse on a Soft Plastic, The ground looked great boulders, gully's, tiny bit of swell it was perfect :) so got a couple of bites failed to hook then i hooked into my first one of the year! Not a big one, but its great that i got one this early on in the year on a lure. Last year it wasn't till 23rd March i got my first one on lure. 2012 is going to be a good fishing year i think!

So i met up with Alex Plaster and we had a Conger trip planned, spent 15 mins deciding on where to go and we made our mind up. A new spot we both have never tried for Eels before.

So after the absolute trek getting down to this Mark it looked good, so out went the rods with whole Cuttle fish on. I love Conger fishing just sit back and wait! I missed a screaming run which took a whole dirty squid really took some line. Might have been Pollack or Bass (missed it so doesn't really matter lol)

Bought a new Rod and Reel of Mr Fish on the Saturday wasn't long before i christened it on this Conger!

Only 13lb but still a Double figure fish from the shore in January so i aint complaining!

Went out last night 10/01/12 tried for the Red Mullet and Ray but they didn't turn up just a Dogfish for me & Dogfish & 3 Pollack for Rob Dingle. Might be going again this week so will let you know how i get on :)

Happy New Year! 2012 Starts

Just been chilling really over the Christmas Period a few beers where involved! Only been fishing a couple of times and had quite a bit of luck! Here is a Wrasse around 3lb Mark

As for the lure fishing, i have done 30 minutes of it in over 1 month. Just trying to get away from that side of fishing for a while. As the bait is being more productive at the moment! and its fun targeting different species.

This is a shot from couple weeks ago conditions looked perfect for a Bass just no fish there! This is new reel i am using for plugging/sp's £25 reel does the job just fine :)

The weather has not been nice at all over the last few weeks not even one nice day!
So i ventured out on the 27th of December to target a Ray, i didn't manage one my self but saw a couple landed in this session by fellow anglers here is Lee Jarvis Father in Law with a 5lb Small Eye.

Nice to see come up! So now i figured there was some Rays to be caught! so i stayed a little longer with Scott Ballard and he managed to pull this lovely fish in:

Undulate Ray 9lb 3oz

I caught a few Dogfish, Pollack, Rockling this night but not a ray for myself :(

I had to go back for more! So on the 29th myself & Ritchie tried for the Rays...he stayed for around an hour but got cold and bored so he went home! The lazy git ;) So i stayed on by my self 3 hours went by....13 dogfish to my name & a couple of small Pollack, but finally i landed a tiny Small Eye Ray around the 2lb mark!

So target Species completed! Another rod was getting a bite i struck into what i thought was a Conger...well it was 25lb (Guessing)! After battling with it for 10mins on my light 2-4oz rod on the Ray gear, using just a strip of squid i had a few problems force 8 winds and no Gaff on me & no friend to help.... Eel was on surface i was trying to tell a Polish Gentleman Squid fishing near me to grab the gaff out of my van but he speak or understand no English (well that's what he said) so after me walking it nearly round to some near by steps i put too much pressure on it and snap! I new it was gonna happen right from when i saw it so wasn't too bothered!

So baits went back out got myself a bit more organised if a big fish were to turn up again. Literally within 10 minutes my rod had a decent bite! Alot easier landing this one as drop net was ready and in it came. A lovely Small Eye my new P.B of 9lb 1oz caught on Squid.

No Glory shot i am Afraid :( As my Polish friend left soon after i lost Conger. Because when his squid jigs hit the water the wind was soo strong it was picking up his line and forcing his jigs back out the water lol!

So was a good session went home with smile on my face :)

Had my first session of the year on the 2nd for couple hours got x3 Dogfish so it was a start

Then went again last night had countless amount of Dogfish 13+, and a nice Pollack going 2lb 8oz Not bad for force 10 Winds lol :) mate Adrian managed Dogfish, Pouting, Rockling also.

Its Windy And Cold!

Right so i have been fishing a grand total of 3 times in the last few weeks mainly just couple hours over the weekends around 10 hours in Total. Just been trying to get a Big Wrasse out the way now so i can concentrate on other species next year :)

Went out with Rob Dingle and we had a good session We had 1 Red Mullet each under 1lb & he had 3 Bass 2lb-3lb. I had a Small Eyed Ray of 4lb 8oz and Pouting up to 1lb 11oz I had no camera with me on that Session & returned my Ray. Just the one Picture of the Bass and Red Mullet when we got up to the Car:

I would also like to mention he has a 1lb 13oz Red Mullet he caught in a session by him self great fish :)

So went out with Alex Plaster on Sat the 3rd December and i got 2 Wrasse over 3lb the biggest going 3lb 9oz and Alex had 1x Wrasse ....here is the Picture caught it on the plugging rod but using Rag worm for bait:

It was force 7 Winds so was very Difficult lol

So this Weekend came along 10th December and i wanted a bigger one a little gap in the weather made it a bit easier for me to have more choice in where to fish! So had a plan and met up with Alex Plaster & off we went with a bucket of Crabs and the Lure rods!

About 15-20 mins into the fishing i was in! Felt like a decent one on the Bait rod and whole Green Crab 3lb 15oz this one went:

Then moved to some close by rocks and they kept on coming had 4 in total on the Crab

Right so we only had a hour left of light & i wanted to get one on the Bass Assassin Soft Plastic

So by now i am on 4 Wrasse on Crab and 5 on Soft Plastics, Alex still was not getting the luck we moved to a Gully we had not touched yet to try and get him his first SP Caught Wrasse so i stopped fishing and after he had around 5 casts i was confused to why he had not had one, i said "lets have 1 quick go" and i had one cast on the rod he was using. I am afraid to say i pulled one out straight away hehe :)

So Results where:

He did woop my arse in the Congering and beat me x3 Congers to 0 so he deserved it ;)

Popped out on the Sunday in very hash conditions for couple hours and i managed one of around 2lbs and Alex failed to catch again. There is always this weekend!

Bass Assassin Lures

Looking back through all of my lure caught Wrasse photos from this year and most have them have fell to the Bass Assassin Lures! They work like magic...its simple cast them in using a 7gram -10 gram Jig-heads. Let them hit the bottom and then slow retrieve with the odd twitch of the rod! They swim brilliantly! Here is a few shots of them in Action!

This was early on in the year the Wrasse was loving them!

The smaller Wrasse hit them just as hard!

Few Wrasse from Last Weekend during Competition 4lb + Wrasse Caught using Hardback Crab!

Our Fishing Club won by miles this year and a few good fish was weighed in too including Double figure Bass

........Right so Friday night i Planned to catch some Congers with Alex
Plaster with swell and wind i picked somewhere nice and sheltered and that i knew there was some Congers to be had from there!
Straight to the Point he showed me right up ! He had x3 Congers ! I Had Nothing...lol

This was the Biggest of the night going 13lb 6oz p.s. he thought it was bigger though lol ;)

Right so packed up by 1am

Saturday ...right spent alot of this day doing nothing just thinking and talking about fishing instead of actually doing it ! But we popped out for 30 mins for some Wrasse and here is what we got!

We even had some Double Hook ups!

So Sunday came along Met up for some Breky With Ritchie & Co ....then we went down some Rocks in search of some Wrasse but he had 0 Wrasse... but i had 6 ;)

Right so moved to a different spot in search of some Bigger ones ,as the last spot failed to get one over 2lb!

And straight away we was into some of the decent fish we were looking for!

This one really put up a fight! caught using 10gram Jig-head and a Bass Assassin!

Dont like the Dark!!

Okay long time no speak....now its getting dark by 5pm...cold and windy & it really is depressing!

But the fishing must continue no matter what the circumstances.

Right to start things off i did a bit of what people call LRF fishing for pretty much the first time (As i prefer to fish for the fish, not the fight of the fish so much) and it is very easy even small fish bite the lures so catch everything. Few pictures of Pollack & Scad on the LRF

Right so now we got some Conger bait we were ready for the proper fish!!

Catch Up!

Took My Girlfriend fishing with me for a hour and she caught a Black Bream & Dogfish

Bass Competition

Soo was on the stinky stuff for most of this weekend but did manage to wack out a few soft & hard plastics got a couple of 2lb-3lb Bass on the last day on the savage gears...here is some Pictures!

Took Ivan out for a few hours on the Saturday morning and he managed first fish of day which was 52cm of Jersey Bass on a hard lure :) !

So good start :)..was within first 30 mins of fishing ..it went quiet on Bass front i managed a Pollack and then couple of Wrasse then it was time to head of for Breakfast and go somewhere else...Went with Ritchie down somewhere else few wrasse no bass :(....Then went down another mark and had some slightly better Wrasse on the Savage Gear Sand-eels in very fast deep flowing tide!

Then i used Smelly stuff till 1am had a good 7 hours sleep! ?Missed the best part of tide as i was meant to wake up at 6am! lol...but went down mark anyway and that's when i had those 2 Bass then went one more spot no joy. called it a day and got ****ed :mrgreen:

Conditions was hard i like swell and white water and tide! but not to be last weekend! Well done to everyone who entered :)

So Bass Comp was Over thank god for that! Vermin Fishing!

General Fishing

Went out Tuesday night for a real fish and managed this Conger 19lb 14oz

My mate Rob Dingle has been getting a couple of fish too. I was with him when this Red Mullet pulled his rod in for a swim 1lb 4oz i think it went :)

He had a Flounder aswell 1lb 6oz, but i wasn't with him on this one!

And speaking of Flounder Steve Mullins had a new Sinkers sea fishing club record with this Cracking Flounder 3lb 6oz beating my Club Record of 3lb 3oz. Looked like the fight he got of it was great! and i was more than happy to net it for him :) Well done Steve

So that was just a bit of a catch up! ...Now plan is trying to get Ritchie onto a Conger & maybe a Flounder for myself. Thanks for reading

Big Baits Big Fish!

Right so long time no speak!

We did a bit of that lure fishing, 100 casts for 1 fish type of fishing and we had a few bits and bobs:

Bass on Shrimp lookalikes

Still getting Wrasse this one around the 3lb mark lovely green colour.

Even some scad on the SP's

Finally got a Golden Grey Mullet big enough to weigh into my Fishing Club..this one going 1lb 12oz Exactly

Ritchie had this cracking 6lb 10oz Mullet!

So then onto the Conger Eels. It was the Conger Competition this weekend me and Ritchie went to a mark we have never tried before at night bait fishing. Turned out alright here is a couple of congers:

This one weight 26lb 14oz by the morning taking 3rd place in competition :)

Then last night we went out for Congers again and Ritchie's rod screamed off to land this Bass 5lb 8oz!

Another hour went by and i noticed Ritchie getting a little bite with some slack line he soon reeled into what was his personal best Bass weighing 9lb 3oz :)

Sorry i dont go into detail about (How,When,Why,Where) i catch my fish. I simply cant be arsed to waste to much time in front of a computer lol :) ...anyway i am ordering a takeaway now with the Girlfriend... so i got that to look forward to :) Happy Fishing Everyone!

DANGER OF DEATH

Well Friday after work popped out for a hour again! My mate Gareth had this one!

I had a Hit and couple follows but couldn't hook up!

Then went out for a few hours again yesterday with Lee Jarvis he got a Wrasse 2lb 10oz:

Then moved spot and i managed one!

Then He got the Bass! kept on fish for 30mins or so and nothing! Beginners Luck me thinks ;)

This sign we found ...we just had to pass it!!

Was well worth it! Ritchie caught this MONSTER!

It was actually about 10oz! But i just made it look big haha!

Going tonight with Rob Dingle after some Sole & Red Mullet! I shall let you know how i get on! :)

8 Species Last Night!

Well met up with Rob Dingle last night, He was kind enough to dig worms during the day time for the both of us! Met him down the Mark and straight away into Bream & Wrasse:

Then we Carried on Rob managed one of the Target Species only small but still a sign we were in the right place!

Carried on Dogfish more Wrasse & bream came to the rods! Just waiting for the night to come! So we could catch some Sole and more Red Mullet! Then just before the light dropped Rob Managed what i did on Sunday a Plaice!

So far so good! Darkness now came The Pouting started to bite! :(

Only thing these fish are good at is floating on the surface when you return them lol!

Then i had this beast of a Starry Smooth Hound! they still put up a little scrap for there size...probs just came out of its mother!

Rob Dingle had another Red Mullet Slightly Bigger than First one lol!

Then Lobsters came to our Worm Baits!

This one i had was lucky just nipped in one of the legs! :D

Was going to fish tonight! But changed my mind and going to catch some waves with Ritchie Campion instead :) Maybe have a little lure fish after!

Few Bass over the Weekend!

Hello there, I had 1 hour free on Friday after work, by the time i got down mark i only had 30 mins fishing. But i did manage this one on the savage gear sand-eel.

Then had a lovely lie in on Saturday morning due to the fact of my hangover from the night before. Met up with Lee (Illusive_Jersey) i have never fished with him before & the mission was to catch some Bass on the Lures! So we started to fish around 1pm. Getting wet in the rain we carried on moving round different heads. Then i landed a Pollack, started getting a few touches.

Then a Bass hit Lee's Hard Plastic Got it in the net. Weighing 2lb 8oz a good sign. Now i am sure we were both thinking we was going to be pulling them out....

I lost one straight after felt like a good one too! :( we carried on & as the tide started to flood i thought we would see some more, moved to a different head and Boom another Pollack...Then a mackerel on a big savage gear god knows why he went for it. my lure was the same size as the Mackerel lol.

Then Finally i hit into a Bass.

Then Lee chucked his soft plastic in a Gully & he managed his first Soft Plastic caught Wrasse! :)

Yesterday i got the fork dug some worm

Then i even managed my First shore caught Plaice weighing 1lb 4oz on the Lug worm, funny enough i was trying for Red Mullet / Flatfish! Good too see they are around.

Now it is in the Fridge lol!

I also enjoyed drinking this Apple Juice!

A Week in Zante & the All week fishing competition!

So my flight out of Jersey To Gatwick was at 4pm ! Had not packed or nothing. But i could not turn down kayak fishing for Mullet in the morning! Was worth it as Ritchie pulled this 6lb Thin Lipped out :)

Then i partied it up with 13 mates for a week in Zante. Still couldn't resist buying a snorkel and hiring a boat! saw Flatfish , Tuna , White Bream the list goes on! :)! trying to catch them with my bare hands was proving quite tricky lol!

Then i returned from this messy week to Robert Dingle picking me up form airport, straight home jumped into the van and off i went to catch some fish! started off a bit rusty think i went for a mullet straight away failing to catch i had a good night sleep and then went for it hard! I found the week very difficult not to catch fish but to get a big enough one to weigh in! ....had 9 Golden Grey Mullet up to 1-8-10 ....around 20 Bass not including the little ones!! The Biggest one was only 4lb 4oz on a large blood head sidewinder! then another of 4lb on a beach fishing for mullet!...had common eel's up to 1lb 12oz....Red Mullet 11oz! ...lots of mackerel one of which being my only weigh-able fish bang on 1-0-0 got our team points up a bit! had another mackerel which didn't quite weigh in at 15oz 3/4 ! Had a few Wrasse biggest around 3lb mark! Plenty more i cant remember i am sure!

I was too focused on the fishing to be taking pictures! But now the comp is over i will get fishing and get the camera out :) Thanks for reading!!!

Enough of the Lures .....Bait Fishing :)

So got a few worms Wednesday after work! Then headed to a North Coast Fishing spot.

Had 6 Wrasse at first which was getting annoying as we was trying for Bream & Red Mullet! But a Bream soon came to the surface by Ritchie.

Okay so always a good sign when the first one comes in! But the Ritchie s Rod Bent over again! What do you know a Common Eel!

Then darkness soon came upon us, and i managed a Bream

I managed 3 in Total !

Even Lobsters came to the Rod :)¬

So Yesterday decided to go for some Mullet with Rob Dingle, he had the day of work and had already caught Golden Grey's, Common Eels, Mackerel, Snipe, Thin Lipped Mullet today so he was in a good mood! Met him at 5pm and started to fish for them ! Rob managed a small Bass. I managed a small Goby! ...Then Rob hit into a good fish!! After a great fight it was in the net.

Soon after we targeted the Thin Lipped Mullet! Rob Dingle as always got one after 3 casts!

He then had another one of around the same size! (jammy git lol )

There me focusing so hard in trying to get one of these buggers! Had a good hit but came off within seconds! Then flicked it out and Boom I had one on after a great scrap she was in the net :) !!

Its was my fishing club's Wrasse Competition over the weekend so i put a few hours in, using the soft plastics! Had 19 Wrasse in Total over weekend but just couldn't manage one over 3lb! Pretty annoying as i was getting them over this size throughout the week. Here a few Wrasse i did have!

A Few Wrasse after Work

I dont know why i am posting this report as the Wrasse are only smallish. The biggest one i have had over 2 evenings after work was just under 4lb! Wednesday i had 7 Wrasse in around a hour and a half, but yesterday only the 2 but it was Windy Raining with Swell made life alot harder for me :( !!

I have a little fishing club competition over the weekend for Wrasse i will post how i get on! will probably be using Crab & Lures! as i heard of a 7lb 7oz Wrasse caught earlier on in the week on Crab ! So i still dont think you can beat it! who knows ??

Sunday Bass Bash!!

Went out for a couple of hours yesterday! There was lots of white water and a nice big swell rolling in! So i went to a spot with deep gully's where i know Bass will be! First cast of my Savage gear into the white water and i was on!! Ohhh its gotta be a Bass. But came to the surface and it was a Wrasse!

I Kept getting hits Fish on and off within 5 secs! Not too sure why they were not staying on! But moved to a different Gully Loads of white water in this one first cast there as soon as it hits the water Boom Fish on :)
Was very difficult to land as i was on my own and with the waves crashing over the rocks (you can imagine) But i managed to get it in the net :)

I had no scales with me on this session or Ruler! But i estimated the first one of around 3lb!

Then no more fish came to that Gully moved around the next corner around 5 casts there, another fish on :D Guessing the 2nd fish was a little bigger than the first one probs 3 1/2 lbs !

So all in all was a good 2 hours well spent !:-D

Golden Grey Mullet Bash

GG Mullet Bashing

So i finished work at 4.30pm yesterday. Jumped in the van & off i went in search for some Mullet! Got the fork out spent a few minutes collecting some Lug worm Got the Rod and my beach Spike Put the Waders on and off i went!

It was very quiet for the first hour! but as the tide started to flood in (very quickly) the Mullet started to bite! here is the first one which hooked its self doubled my rod over that was sitting nicely in my beach spike!

First Fish of the Day!

Because i was already in waist high water i had to walk a fair way back up the beach so i could beach them, in order to take photos!

It is very hard i had a little bag on my back! A bucket with the worms strapped to my chest. Trying to land the Mullet aswell as taking pictures its alot of effort when i could quickly unhook and re-bait for another! But you guys like pictures & so do i :)

So i re-baited put it out in the same spot within seconds my rod was doubled again!

This one was a Great fight kept on swimming towards me i had to reel like mad to keep the tension tight on him!

Tide was really coming up now! So amazing how it comes up so quick and the fish all split up and go there different ways up the beach but i think i stayed with them as i had 5 in total in just a couple of hours and called it a day!

I had no scales with me so did not weigh any of the fish! but i am pretty good at guessing and none of them was over 1lb 12oz! Still all good fun on the light gear :)

Few Mullet & Bass from last weeks Fishing!

So spent a bit of time Mullet fishing last week i ended up with 6 Mullet in Total 5 golden Grey's & 1 Thick Lipped here is the First half decent Golden Grey weighing 1lb 9oz

Then another hour went by missing alot of bites i hooked another one in the net! Another Golden grey Weighing 1 lb 10oz

Spent another 30 minutes and called it a day!

Following day tried a differnt spot in the hope for a big thick lipped! but only golden grey's came into the shirvy! and i managed a small one!

So another hour or so with out hooking anymore we called that a day you get such a good feeling catching these fish after they put you through so much frustration!

Then had a phone call from Ritchie we decided to meet up and fish the incoming tide! The weather was lovely we went wading in just our shorts and 1 rod each.
We started off missing a few bites, but the first fish of the day came to Ritchie & it was his first ever Gilthead Bream!

So we were surronded by mullet but could we hook any (well that was the problem) The Bass kept getting in the way! Ritchie managed some:

Quick Picture and released with out a problem.....isn't that right Ritchie ;) lol

i looked over to my rod sitting in my beach spike to notice i had lots of slack line i ran through the water in Slow motion! Struck into what i thought was a cracking Mullet! it soon Surfaced very far out was a great scrap after 5 mins of playing the fish on my very light 13ft Mullet rod i got it in and it was only a nice Bass :)

This next picture has to be my new favorite! might blow it up and put it on my wall its that good :)

So a few quick snaps and released to live another day!

Ritchie is now determined to get a golden Grey & the same day as this Bass i lost a decent one on the surface easily 2lb + i was gutted !

But we returned the next day (Monday after work) and Ritchie got one! He got a big applause by our Locals walking by!

Personal Best Wrasse on the Soft Plastics!

So i know i have been focusing on the Mullet for a week now, and i have had 6 in total - 1 Thick Lipped and 5 Golden Grey's up to 1lb 10oz. But awaiting on the photos to do those reports.

Here is Ritchie with his first ever Mullet (he is hooked on Mullet fishing already)

Saturday morning i was awake by 5am went for a mullet till around 9am just getting annoyed watching this nice Thick Lipped eat every bit of bread but mine!

I Needed a break from the Mulleting! Headed down to one of my favorite marks and first cast of my soft plastic and my rod bent double oh god with was a big fish! after a great hard fight by the Wrasse i got it in the net! This is the time i have no camera or lure forum tape measure.

Found a nice rock pool for it to lie in whilst i got the phone out and made a few calls luckily Peter Haworth was the man who popped down! So here are the pictures of the 5lb 8oz Wrasse:

Sorry to leave you for 2 weeks everyone just been chilling on a cruise boat :) Need a week to catch up with my work and i will be back on the fishing!!

I Could resist buying a cheap rod when i saw thousands of Mullet munching on whole slices of bread in Barcelona. But by the time i found a fishing shop it was in Italy and fished there & in Palma Majorca (that's where this picture was taken) . So all in all no fish came to my Hard Plastics.

Soon i will be concentrating on the Mullet including Thick Lipped/ Thin Lipped & the Golden Grey's.

This is just some of the ground i fish over for Bass/Wrasse! As you can see what we are standing on is thick Kelp!

I have had a couple of sessions in the week not much to report on here though! Had my first ever shore caught Common Smooth Hound Wednesday evening (weighing 8lb 1oz) ...great scrap in difficult fishing conditions!

So i ventured out on Saturday for a few hours in the day time targeting some Smooth Hounds! Turned into a great little session. Had a Wrasse take my whole squid on my first cast. Got played by dogfish a little. Then I Finally got my P.B Shore caught Starry Smoothy (only 6lb 8oz) but still great fun! that double will come soon

Then it was Ben Bates turn to get one Same size as mine but a Common Smoothy! :

Then Ben's Dad Stephen Pulled the best one of the day out weighing 14lb 8oz nice bug pregnant female! Great fish!

Ritchie is Starry Eyed

So Wind dropped down last night to nothing was a perfect chance for us to get out and try and catch that smooth-hound we have all been waiting for ! After Deciding to get drunk instead of catch fish on Saturday night i missed out on some good action! Ritchie Had some nice Bream up to 2lb 7oz

And Stephen Donnely had this nice Comman Smoothound:

So i was gutted i turned the fishing down!

So last night me and Ritchie went out to try and get some Smoothhounds for our selves was very quiet for a few hours! I had x2 good runs just not hooking up with them!.
Then Ritchie's Rod bent right over! he was into a nice Starry Smoothy:

Finally got a Smooth Hound

So i went out last night on Peter Haworth's Boat Targeting some Smooth hounds for a couple of hours yesterday evening.

It all started when Ritchie had a Pollack on the Soft Plastic!

Then soon after this my rod started getting a bite! and i struck into my first Starry Smooth Hound of the year!

So i was a bit happy now as this was only my 2nd cast so hopefully we would get a few more!

Ritchie Had a Ray on which turned out to be a nice bit of seaweed ( haha ) but he kept on playing around with his Pollacks:

Then the Skipper Pete got his first ever Smooth Hound:

Then whilst we was weighing and releasing his! my rod started screaming off and i was into yet another smooth hound!:

So the Smoothy s were only baby's biggest being only 4lb 9oz ! but its a start!

So now i have some confidence and a little more knowledge. Lets see if i get some of the shore this weekend :) !!

So decided to get out for a few hours after work yesterday and try for the Smooth Hounds we were armed with x2 Boxes of squid. The dogfish started biting after landing a few of those & a few spider crabs! my rod had a run! striked into it and felt different to a doggy! after a great scrap i landed this Small-Eyed Ray of 7lb 15oz!

Few Small Wrasse on Softys!!

So another bank holiday weekend came along i was planning on doing quite a bit of fishing! I only actually managed 2x short sessions over the 3 days! Ben Kay had a small Wrasse on a Soft Plastic on Saturday:

I had a few also this one my biggest around the 3lb mark! :)

My brother was over from England, he has never caught a fish on rod & line before but he came with me for 1 hour! i showed his what to do managed a Wrasse myself. passed the rod over to him and after 10 mins he got one!! (only baby but he was well chuffed)

So that is about it for now ! going to put in a couple of Smooth hound sessions after work this week. il keep ya posted!! :)

Focusing on the Smoothhounds for a couple weeks

So i have had 2 sessions so far this year for the smoothhounds. None have came to my rod as of yet! (but lets hope they do soon)

Yesterday i had a good run took line of my reel i thought ohh maybe a smoothy struck into it to find it was only a Wrasse:

My First Double Figure Bass 12lb 3oz & a 5lb Wrasse!!

So i decided to meet up with my mates in Mr Fish tackle shop got our Soft Plastics & off we went to target some Bass!
Straight away when we got there Rob Dingle was into a nice Pollack :

Great start to the session ! ! My first words to Rob was "bet you get a Bass on your first cast" & what do you know he was IN !!

So good start so i after taking a few shot of this one! i was soon back in the water 3 casts later BOOM fish on! nicely netted by Rob another bass around the 3lb Mark ..

So far this is a good session if we left know ! but we couldn't 30 mins went by and i had a bite! i waiting and Striked into the fish Boom Fish on ! "F**k me this is a monster" i said ! Thought i was a huge Pollack at first ! but finally got it up and was a nice Wrasse Weighing 5lb ! measuring 52cm on the Lure Forum Tape Measure!

Was very hard to get a clear photo on the Ruler ! but here it is anyway :)

So darkness was coming! after this Wrasse demolished my Pro Logic - Savage Gear Sandeel ! i swapped over to a Darker one!

10 mins went by and F**K me i am in again !! "This feels like a good fish Rob" i said really did not want to come to the surface! but i saw it .. "Its a Bass" and after a few attempts it was in the net. :D !

Weighing 12lb 3oz and measuring 87cm on the Lure Forum Tape Measure my P.B Bass !

I have been out a few times after work this week & over the course of the weekend fishing has still been very difficult trying to find somewhere to fish without the wind affecting me too much !

So it all Started with this Garfish on the Hard Plastic in Current! :

We have had lots more Wrasse too! :

Callum Had a nice Pollack of 3lb i had one the day before which went 3lb 5oz, but no camera with me!

Callum had 6 Bass Yesterday too ! Top Angling by him! i only managed to get a couple of pics of the smallest one he caught:

Wreck Pollack Trip!

I Love Bank Holidays !!!!!!

Well i had a great weekend of fishing! All started off with more Turbot had x4 up to 1lb on Friday night!

Then Saturday i had planed to take my girlfriends brother fishing. He hadn't been in a long time but he picked it up very quickly! he got a small one. Then his rod doubled over!

It weighed 5lb 4oz and came to a Reins Soft Plastic 7Gram Jighead

It went 51cm on the Lure Forum Tape measure!

Now my confidence is right up, i managed 13 Wrasse in the end we was only fishing couple of hours!

Sunday has now arrived!! never guess which spot i returned too :)

Monday i planned to go fishing with Ritchie Campion ! We met up grabbed a Coffee Bacon & Egg Roll and of we headed ! go to the spot within minutes i was into my first Lure caught Snipe of the year!

I managed some more Wrasse this one the biggest around 3lb mark ! 42cm :)

We changed location as there was too much weed in water we couldn't fish through it !

i Blanked in this next spot we was both trying for a Bass ! And Ritchie got one!! lovely fish

Shore Turbot Bashing!

So now i knew there was some Turbot around, i went out again last night to fish for them & with the chance of Rays!
Rob Dingle lost one on his first cast on the surface he was a bit gutted.
The first one landed came to my rod! I used Sand-eel for bait

Then Rob Dingle Landed his first shore caught Jersey Turbot :) :

Then he had another one which was bigger than his first one:

Then just before darkness another one took i liking to my bait! was my new P.B - 1LB

Its great to catch these flatfish and will definitely be doing alot more fishing for them.

Fishing is only getting better!!!!

Well been doing a fair bit of fishing ..as always :) ! including my p.b (lure caught) Wrasse of the year and my First ever shore caught Turbot & Steve Le Baillys Cracking Blonde Ray!

So i really wanted some BIGGER Wrasse on the soft plastics went down a spot i knew there was some big ones ! and what do you know took me 2 hours before i got this big one but was well worth it:

Lovely Green Wrasse Weighing bang on 4lb !

Then 30 minutes later i had another nice sized Green Wrasse which weighed 3lb 5oz :

Had a Trip out on Tony Hearts Boat Anna 2 and managed my first small eyed ray of the year weighed 5lb 12oz:

Steve Le Bailly had this cracking Blonde Ray weighing 32lb ! defiantly worth a mention and a picture!

A few nice bream too :

So Today ( 2nd May 2011) i had a very bad day was really windy i moved around 4 different spots couldn't find any wrasse! so had a plan that i would target Small eyed Rays from the Shore ! and what do you know i got my First Turbot instead.....And then i had a 2nd next cast!! :) and then my mate Chris Robinson managed a small one also.

My P.B Turbot is now 15oz from the shore :)

And i finished the session with a Pollack of around 1lb 1/2. So the turbot made my day !
Now after 11 days of work, i am back tomorrow :( but i am sure i will get some fishing done as well

WRASSE

Well i have been getting alot of fish, but most of them are pretty small! here are a few head shots of some Wrasse!!!

I Love the Color's on Wrasse every single one is different! you never know if its gonna be Green, Red, Orange etc!!

Look at those Teeth !

The Pumpkin Reins Bubble Shad is still working wonders

This one went a 43cm and was a good scrap! really had to bully him out of a shallow gully! hit my lure basically at my rod tip!

Some of the Ground we fish ! the above fish was caught just meters away from here

Simon King had a good Black Bream just under the 5lb Mark!!

Simon's Son William King had a nice one!, he had a few by the end of the day he must of felt like Popeye!!

I also had a few! This one was my biggest which weighed 4lb 2oz !! :)

Bass on Lure's last night!

Hello there! just returned from a Session with Ben Bates ! I decided to go to a spot i recently fished for Wrasse, as i knew there would be Bass there (big boulders and lots of them) !
We got down there pretty late around 7.40pm so only had like 40mins of light before darkness! We lost a bit of gear when trying for a Wrasse. Then as that Sun was going down! Ben managed this Bass of 48cm ! :

I already had a hard lure on, Salvage gear White i dont know the name lost the box it came in. I am sure one of you boys do lol! and after around 4 casts of Ben landing his i manged this Beast:

It weighed 5lb 3oz ! was a great scrap, as you can tell by this next photo i was rather happy lol !

Here is a shot of it on the ruler going 62cm. As you can see by the tail of the fish it had once been attacked by something and had a healed chunk out of tail.

18th April 2011 ! Session after work

Well i went again last night after work! went to a north coast rock mark to get out of the wind, and i really new that the ground i was about to fish would hold some decent fish!

Straight away i was getting good bites on my soft plastics! and i manged a few small Wrasse & then this one:

This was a great fight on my light 5-15gram Shimano rod!

Then i met up with a mate Chris Robinson and i had an idea, which i thought had a great chance of getting a nice Bass! so 10min drive around corner and we 'slid' down the cliff and i guess it was worth it as i had this Bass:

I knew it was a Bass just by the bite and the way it doubled the rod over as it hit my whole squid :)

16/17th April Fishing

Well on Saturday me and Rob Dingle went out to target some Wrasse, and straight away within 2 casts i was into a small Wrasse on the soft plastics!

great little scrap, I knew that we was going to be in for a great session.

This Pollack put a lovely bend in my rod ! didn't weigh but estimated just over 2lb.

There was more than 1 Pollack about as Rob Dingle pulled this one in minutes after mine! this one went 2lb 11oz,

This lovely Red Wrasse took my lure! just using a 7gram jig head and a Reins Soft plastic.

Well we did bring a bait rod with us also (used Crabs/Limpets) . Which did the job for couple of these Wrasse!

They got a bit bigger as you can see!

We stopped taking photos after the first 6 Wrasse were caught lol..all together id say we had 10+ Wrasse x2 Pollack

Sunday

So Sunday was finally upon me (Already!!!) and i decided to go down some cliffs! & i managed 5x Wrasse all on the Soft Plastics:

Was getting lots of hits that i wasn't connecting to the fish with! the Wind was not helping me have full control over the lure! (well that my excuse lol)

They just kept on coming !

Biggest one of the day only went 38cm was a heavy fish. Was still great fun to catch :)

This Wrasse Really Hit my Lure 2lb 5oz !

Ritchie managed this one in his first cast! look at the Belly on him!

This Wrasse really tried to shake the hook out of his mouth, he found its way into a hole! i soon bullied him out and landed it!

Only a small wrasse but as you can see it really wanted my Lure!

Seeing how long in (cm) the Wrasse was!

Well as you can tell we had a few Wrasse today :) i had a really fun day out !

This Pollack Below came to a Sand-eel Float Fished over Rough Ground big Boulders ! didn't weigh him, but sure put up a good scrap!!

Well on Saturday i went out targeting some Wrasse with a friend Ben Bates, we had 5 in total up to 2lb 10oz. Then i decided to wack out a lure! after a few casts Boom Fish on i saw the flash of silver i estimated it around 3/4lbs and as it came to surface shook his head and off he swam :( !

So went out Sunday with Ritchie Campion and his rod doubled over! ....

Good start to the month

WRASSE 26th March :)

Well went out today with Ritchie & we caught a few wrasse here they are :)

Well the first one was pretty small.

They Got a Bit bigger this one was 2lb 3oz

Ritchie Pulled out a Wrasse!

Then i had this double hook up!

Then finally this beast took a liking to my bait!

This Wrasse Weighted 4lb 5oz was a good scrap to.

Lets hope the rest of the year only gets better :)

Well i have not been going fishing as much as normal but when me and friends do get out we are still catching fish. Here are some pictures from the fish we have had over last few weeks enjoy :)

i was not fishing with him on this night but id thought id mention it on my blog, as i cant bloody catch one lol!

Finally managed my first Bass of 2011 ...but then they kept on coming

Beginning of February!

Small Pollack & Smelt Free lining a Hook with a bit of worm (white cat)! (Some People have been fishing this way for 'decades')

Ended up with Quite a few (I Freezed them down for bait to use another day )

A Day or so later and me and Ritchie went for a bit of a Bait Fish on our breakwater (St Cathrine's) had a few fish!

This Fish is known as a Pouting ! had more than these one's, just showing you what they look like!

I was targeting Rockling on my other rod i managed a few too :) ! this is just one of the 5 i caught!

So i went to a new fishing spot 15th Feb never tried with bait and had this Rockling 11oz !

Then on 16th Feb went to one of my Favorite Shore spots and we had some Dogfish x5 this one here Ritchie Caught went 1Lb 12oz ! and i had yet another Rockling of 10oz! and some Pouting!

Well myself and friends have put in so many hours to try and catch some fish ! and when we do catch them they are very small, a bit like this wrasse:

Ritchie also had one around this size and missed a bite from one we thought might have been a better size.
we will keep on trying to catch some decent fish! i think its a matter of waiting for things to warm up a bit.

Well my mate Rob Dingle got down to the spot a little earlier than me on Monday night, and started to put some ground bait in and before he knew it they came on the feed!. I arrived moments after he had just caught this one.

Estimated this one of 4lb 1/2

Another frustrating hour went by, and Rob Dingle managed another Thick lipped Mullet no picture but around the 4lb 1/2

Then after a good 2 hours of failing to hook up with one i managed this one

5lb 8oz :) put a great bend in my rod before safely entering the net.

I Will update this report later on this week with a few fish that me and friends had last weekend!

Fishing Report from last few trips!

Well i am getting into this slow retreiving soft plastic's along the bottom for wrasse now and it has been working well ! the fishing has slowed down for most people including me in terms of catching fish ! but its about getting out there and giving it your best shot!Ritchie Campion Took me to Rock Mark i have never fished and i managed this:

Bass of 3lb 5oz on the 27th December was a great fight on a light spinning rod!

As you can see by the close up the Soft-Plastic i am using Reins Paddle Tail 10gram Jig head

The Wrasse have seem to disappeared recently, until Ben Bates proved us wrong and had this one:

We did a little bait fish session - Ritchie & Ben had Scorpion Fish both on the Really light Rods (LRF - is what they call it pffft )

i had 2 dogfish (i am not proud of) but Ben had this one (he seemed over the moon!!:

Jersey Open Shore Angling Festival 2010

My 41lb 4oz Shore Caught Conger Eel Caught (Personal Best) in the Jersey Open shore Angling Festival 2010

It was a long week of fishing due to being at a music festival i missed out 2 days on this competition ! 2 of my team mates already had fish weighed in so the pressure was on for me to catch !

Had a couple of Mullet none big enough! , had around 5 Bass from 2.5lb -4lb couldn't get one over 5lb. Tried for Trigger fish and Wrasse Failing. I lost all hope in getting a fish to weigh in then decided to go Congering With the help of 'Leigh Mullins' I managed to get this one! and it was the Best Conger of the competition. I was very pleased.

This competition was in August, sorry for the late post. I only just received the pictures!

Okay so this is just typical earlier on in the year April Time my step dad has one day out fishing on a boat! and this is what he gets (on Bream gear 150ft of water) should have seen the look on my face ! still in denial for catching a bigger Bass than me!!

December Update

Well i have recently been fishing with soft plastics instead of the bait ! instead of catching or trying to catch Flounder this time of year, i am Catching wrasse instead! so here is a little report of fishing with soft plastics.(Pictures by Ritchie Campion)

This was my first Wrasse. and the start of many more i hope on Soft Plastics.

So in total i had 3 wrasse this day.

Went down same spot the next day as the first day a few wrasse was landed!

I got the bites but could not hook up with any Ritchie Campion and Ben Bates had a couple !

Then this Bass took my 3" Bubble Shad took me and the fish by surprise !

So a few fish was caught i could now see some sense in this Fishing with Soft Plastics :) !

Ritchie was telling me to join the http://www.thelureforum.com/ so i did . I had a good read and got interested! So it came Saturday morning 11/1

2/10. I couldn't wait to get out there fishing! Blanked at first spot i tried then had 1 Wrasse when we moved to a differnt spot on the s/w coast! .Sunday feeling fresh as ever after not getting much sleep on sat night due to drinking alot. Ritchie came and picked me up and off we went!

A Pretty nice Day Caught Pollack! went 2lb 4oz

So moved just around the corner and boom Fish on!

Only a Small Wrasse but still great fun!

Much credit to Ritchie Campion for showing me this way of fishing i bet in the summer months i will be doing this aswell as my bait fishing, also i am purchasing my own water pro

of camera so i will update my blog with all of the fish i catch :) !

Went out last night for couple hours north coast as this was only sheltered place. caught these 3 Pollack & also a couple of scad all on light spinning rod :) ! Great fun .

Smallest one was 2.4lb

Biggest one was over 3lb

Sorry Guys i have been slacking and have not updated my Blog for ages. But here is some pictures of the fish i have had over the last couple of months hope you enjoy!

This is my personal best flounder which was caught right at the end of last year! it weighed 3lb 3oz and mananged to be the new Sinkers Sea fishing Club record. (sorry but i cropped the image down so no one can see were i caught it ! )

These Bass were all caught probally withen an hour. Was all good fun ! light spinning rods and Sidewinders!

So i have now caught a few fish to show you guys some pictures.

After having caught the 15lb Comman Smoothhound i really wanted more, the next week i had this Starry Smoothhound of 14lb

Then a couple of weeks went by and i had this Comman Smoothhound of 13lb 6oz which would have beat the C.I Record again but i put her back to live another day.

I have been out many of times over these last couple of weeks with some blanks and some success. This is what i have caught :

2 small Bass both caught in harbour daytime (Picture to come)
Pollack are getting smaller but this week having them up to 13lb
No sign of Rays but my first Turbot of 5lb 5oz (No picture)
Small Wrasse shore caught using Worm.
Dogfish, Poor Cod, Pouting, and Rockling.

Today went out Sam Chapon had a Bullhuss of 10lb 4oz and my step-dad had a black bream of 3lb 8oz.

Recent Fishy Tales

Well Been fishing a few times recently and here is just a quick summary of what fish i have caught and also mates have caught when fishing with them.

2 weeks ago from now i had my biggest Pollack of 13lb,
which i beat last Saturday with this Pollack of 16lb.

Sorel Point Winter Fishing

Well me and Leigh Mullins "Mullz" went out fishing last night down Sorel Point in search for some big Pollack and rays/congers.By the time we arrived on the mark it was 10.30pm we was fishing the dropping tide because the tide would have been too strong to hold the bottom if we fished the incoming and over high.

So the rods went out, Leigh took his time making Super Rigs which were rubbish . After he spent a hour on making 1 rig he got snagged and it snapped off he had a couple of little bites on it though. So i had a reel in, changed bait from a Squid to a Sandeel, the rig i was using is a simple running ledger with two 3/0 ultamite Bass hooks, and put a whole large Sandeel on and wacked it out as far as i could. 10 mins went by and i had a run so was straight to it and struck into it.

I was now into a fish which was not a dogfish so pumped it in looking down on a 15-25ft drop after a few minutes it was on the suface Leigh was already half way down the rocks with the Drop Gaff then when he first looked he said oh Doggy i was like nooo wayy this cant be a dog. Then he changed his mind and said Ohh it looks like a Bullhuss i was like Sound Then he realised it was a small Conger of around 10lb i told him would i climb down and get it and for him to hold my rod. So i got down there had a good lock at it. I fought i would bring it up with the swell instead of gaffing it and as i pulled the line towards me Snap (Gutted i was just wanted a pic and to slip it back).

I chucked the gaff with hope of getting it as it layed on the surface but i just was not accurate enough then swam back to the deep Oh Well i set back up but for a conger and wacked it out in same spot but having no luck. Looked over to Leigh and he was having bites he struck into it and fought the battle with this great beast

So was good fun i have got a few videos but they are not playing at the moment but will post them when they do. 2lb 2oz this Shark was weighed at A Fine Fish

Not a great success.

A bad days fishing beats a good days work

Well went out fishing last night with Mr Mark Andre, at 5.30 we grabbed a burger, and then straight out to the North Coast of jersey (Greve de Lecq Cliff mark).
Had a quick look without the gear checking if it was safe enough with swell/tide etc, then we thought we should give it a go.
We got the gear and then went up slopes through some bushes, then down the cliff. Then we arrived at the destenation, the fishing spot.
At this point all aroud us was white foam from the swell hitting against the rocks i got asked the question "Do you feel safe here" and off course i am going to say yes i am a nutcase.
So we started to fish, me only the 1 rod encase things got a bit nasty and we would of had to get off the rock's quickly. Plus my light gear wouldnt of had a chance with the conditions.
Fished it for a good hour but it just wasn't to be we was more foccused on the swell behind us to be worried about trying to catch fish. Then a big one arrived we were both waiting for it , we knew instantly to get off that rock Aasp before we were swimming.

So back up the cliff we went to the car, after getting our breath back from the trek, we decided to check out Greve De Lecq Pier but there was too many people that were already fishing there.
So we left them too it, when moving around the north coast thinking of were to go next, having very little petrol in the car we checked out Bouley Bay (not to be) then Rozel was the next option, of which we took after seing there was nobody fishing there.
So i set up my 2 rods, as Mark sets up his 4 (forgetting his rigs at home meaning he had to make them on the spot).
9pm by now both of us thinking it was midnight already we was quite shocked, so i had one out for the conger which wasnt touched all night. Then was trying for anything with the other rod, got to the point were i was using a float to catch small Pollack to keep me occupied (Mark still wanting a go with mine when his 4 rods are already out which left me with 1 rod lol). But good laugh all in all between the both of us:
5 Pollack (biggest 14......oz)
1 Dogfish
2 pout
Not quite the fishing session we was hoping for but that fishing ayyyy.

Pollack Wreck Fishing (Jan 2009)

Went out Wreck fishing yesterday i was on a charterboat (Anna 2). We left St Helier Harbour at 8am and headed out to the banks to catch some live sandeels. Started off not so well catching very little so moved on to a differnt sand bank, which was a wise move after getting plenty there.
We then steamed out to the Wreck miles offshore and then started to drift fish for some Pollack. 1st drift we had 2 Pollack biggest 16lb then we thought we were going to have a very good days fishing. Had a few more drifts with getting 1 or 2 Pollack a drift all above 10lb.

Fishing started to ease off a bit with getting 1 every other drift. Jez a angler on the boat hooked into a nice fish 30 ft or so off the bottom, and 120 ft away from the wreck, he thought it might have been a coalfish as the are known to come up off the bottom, but no it was a pollack of 18lb 4oz.

Everyones hopes were now up, should have seen Oliver Heart's face he was getting worried someone might of beat his Record. (He holds the current Jersey boat Pollack record of 21lb 14oz) - caught on the same wreck 10 years ago, and caught in January.
So all in all 16+ fish we caught (2 ling (up to 19lb) 14 Pollack (smallest 10lb) and a few Pouting.
Yet again another great day out fishing.
