Digging Rock Worm /Verm Jersey Channel Islands

Hi there I am going to start updating my blog regularly from now on with nearly everything I get up to. Last Sunday 22/02/2015 we had some spring tides 39ft+ over the high water. But on these tides the tide also drops away ALOT! Which enables people in Jersey to go low water fishing exploring new grounds which maybe no one has ever walked on before! Finding Ormers are very popular in Jersey as well as finding Lobsters. But us Anglers prefer to go down for something else.....Rockworm well this is what the Jersey boys call them, the Guernsey boys call them Verm!

These worms are so tough and very big compared to other worms we get in the Channel Islands.
Here is a picture of a very large Rockworm Tim Morley dug up! This just shows you how big these things can get....I think I am going to need a bigger hook lol!

Anyway on Sunday afternoon I set out to get myself some Rock Worm. I made a video to show people how to dig them. Any questions on it just leave a message in the comments box below.

Besides digging worm I have only done a little bit of fishing twice down St Catherine's in the last couple of weeks (Just Dogfish, Pouting & Rockling to show for it)  also a quick 30 minute lure session down St Helier Harbor for Pollock. I made a little video on that too so please check that out.

Thanks for reading :) !

November Report :D

NOVEMBER FISHING IN JERSEY

November is always a great month to fish, this year was very hard work compared to recent years though. The Congers have not really been feeding inshore, the weather has not been kind to us either but still i worked my socks off trying!!

I attempted catch  a Golden Grey Mullet down our local harbor (failed at that) found a few Garfish & Mackerel on the float was good fun on the 13ft Match Rod! 1lb 2oz was my biggest Garfish & Gareth Mcmonagle also had one of 1lb 2oz...the best one went to Adrian Le Hueze at 1lb 3oz

Ben Bates with a nice Pouting (he demanded the photo lol)

November is always a good month in Jersey for targeting Red Mullet & Sole, this year however they have not really came on the feed! After many sessions trying for a Red Mullet i did manage just the one weighing 1lb 8oz (First Cast)

Other Anglers in Jersey managed to find some specimen Red Mullet & i believe they had them up to 2lb 12oz. After this very short session i changed location and changed over to using my lure rod, guess which cast i caught a fish on???

No more fish was caught on this little Adventure i stayed fishing for another 30 mins.

As for Ray fishing i cant seem to find any more Small Eyed Rays or Blonde Rays, but i managed to find my Personal Best Undulate Ray! It was a Monday night & the tides was not really in my favor, i was thinking all day of where to try.....I started headed up North to find out it was too rough for what i wanted to do! Wasn't too keen for my Plan B as it is a bit of a hike, but thought i could do with the exercise. I have been quiet jammy with my "first cast" recently but the Launce Sand-eel did the job again!

15lb 9oz

Now i was chuffed to bits after taking these self timed shots i released her to fight another day :)

It was now around 10pm and i wanted a different species, A BASS so out came the lure rod for a while. Didn't take me long before i landed two Bass on a Delalande Weedless Shad

Now i can go home and sleep a happy boy :)

Now it was Conger time, sticked one rod out with whole Cuttle Fish & the other with fresh Pouting head! I was playing around with my scratching rod catching quiet a few Shore Rockling / Pouting, i got a run on my Eel rod Strike Fish on! Ohhh this is small :( saw it on surface and thought id test my rod out so i winched it up the rocks!

Here are some of the Shore Rockling i have had during November all pretty small though 10oz biggest!

10oz Shore Rockling
Now i have been trying to get my self a big Pollock also they have been mostly around the 2lb mark though with a couple over 3lb too!

During our a competition i had a few Wrasse one morning too but nothing over 3lb really this one took Limpet on a Jig Head :)

Myself & Sam Daniels had a lovely romantic evening on the rocks as well & just few Pollock and a pathetic Conger ....and of course the usual Dogfish, Pouting & Rockling to show for it....good sausages though ;)

Rock Hiking Boots :)

On my last fishing day of November & i managed a Flounder weighing 1lb 3oz :) i have blanked on previous 3 sessions for them so was good to see :)

Thanks for Reading, i am currently having a bit of a rest from Fishing. I am sure i will sneak a few trips in though! Tight Lines!

Dont like the Dark!!

Okay long time no speak....now its getting dark by 5pm...cold and windy & it really is depressing!

But the fishing must continue no matter what the circumstances.

Right to start things off i did a bit of what people call LRF fishing for pretty much the first time (As i prefer to fish for the fish, not the fight of the fish so much) and it is very easy even small fish bite the lures so catch everything. Few pictures of Pollack & Scad on the LRF

Right so now we got some Conger bait we were ready for the proper fish!!

and here is the results! Ben Bates with a Conger over 20lb !

Ritchie Campion with a conger over 15lbs

I managed my P.B Dogfish this night of 2lb 6oz took the conger gear!

Right as for other fishing the Wrassing on the Soft Plastics is still happening here are few fish i have had recently:

And getting the bigger ones too this one around the 4lb mark didn't weigh it just a little guess:

Ben Bates with lure caught Pollack & Wrasse on Sps

And here few other species i had recently:

Quite rare to get them this size in Jersey Whiting 14oz:

Rockling:

Of Course the Pouting had plenty of these biggest still 1lb 2oz though

Ritchie had couple Black Bream Friday night! He sad as they were getting in the way of our red mullet and sole!

We do dress correctly for the occasion

Ritchie with a Red Snapper! aka Bloody Red Wrasse!!

Thats about it for now ! Inter Club Competition This Weekend us Luck !!! :D

8 Species Last Night!

Well met up with Rob Dingle last night, He was kind enough to dig worms during the day time for the both of us! Met him down the Mark and straight away into Bream & Wrasse:
Then we Carried on Rob managed one of the Target Species only small but still a sign we were in the right place!

Carried on Dogfish more Wrasse & bream came to the rods! Just waiting for the night to come! So we could catch some Sole and more Red Mullet!  Then just before the light dropped Rob Managed what i did on Sunday a Plaice!

So far so good! Darkness now came The Pouting started to bite! :(

Only thing these fish are good at is floating on the surface when you return them lol!

Then i had this beast of a Starry Smooth Hound! they still put up a little scrap for there size...probs just came out of its mother!

Rob Dingle had another Red Mullet Slightly Bigger than First one lol!

Then Lobsters came to our Worm Baits!

This one i had was lucky just nipped in one of the legs! :D

Was going to fish tonight! But changed my mind and going to catch some waves with Ritchie Campion instead :) Maybe have a little lure fish after!
